UTILITY BOARD APPROVES UPGRADES TO OLD TOWN SUBSTATION

08/26/2015 ~ The Utility Board awarded a contract to J.L. Malone & Associates LLC, in the amount of $2.12-million for upgrades to the Key West Diesel Substation in the Old Town section of Key West, at their regular meeting on August 26th.

The contractor will oversee the design, construction, and installation as a turnkey project to upgrade the circa 1965 control building structure in the substation. The Key West Diesel Substation, named after the Key West Diesel plant which once operated on that site, serves the Navy base at Truman Annex, the Duval Street corridor, Bahama Village, and the privately developed section of Truman Annex.

In other business, the Board approved renewing Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) property, general liability, automobile liability, physical damage comp/collision, and worker’s compensation insurance coverage with Florida Municipal Insurance Trust, administered by the Florida League of Cities, in the amount of $436,932.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday August 26th, in the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority Board Room, 1100 Kennedy Drive, Key West.
