12/09/2015 ~ On December 31, 2015, Keys Energy Services’ (KEYS) Eddie Garcia, will retire after 28-years of continuous service to the Utility.

Garcia was originally hired in 1987 when the Utility was named City Electric System. During his tenure he held various positions within the Utility, including Meter Reader, Assistant Storekeeper, Plant Laboratory Technician, Environment/Safety Officer, and Supervisor of Generation, prior to completing his career as Director of Generation.

When asked about his most memorable experience at KEYS, Garcia cited working long hours in the aftermath of Hurricane Georges due to the need to run local generation. Among the biggest changes he has witnessed was when ownership of KEYS’ generation assets was passed over to the Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA) in 2011.

In reminiscing about his time at KEYS, Garcia said he will miss seeing his co-workers every day as he has been around most of them for a good portion of his life. As for the secret to his longevity, he credits always wanting to do the best job he could while having a sense of responsibility to the community, his family, and co-workers.

Garcia and his wife of 30-years, Damarys, raised their daughter Suzette in Key West. He added that, “we as a family are appreciative of the opportunities KEYS has provided for us.” In retirement Garcia plans to tackle his “honey do” list at home and expand his ministry at his church. After a 28-year career at KEYS he has more than earned the right to make his own schedule.
