UTILITY BOARD APPROVES DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM UPGRADE AND POLE REPLACEMENT

04/14/2016 ~ The Utility Board awarded a Unit Price Contract for the upgrade of the electrical distribution system and pole replacement to Michels Power, a division of Michels Corporation, for a total estimated cost of $1.88-million during their regular meeting on Wednesday, April 13th.

The scope of the project will include the replacement of over 500 power poles, installation of 100 new poles within accessible county right-of-ways, and upgrading one-mile of power lines on Stock Island to accommodate the electrical load growth in the Shrimp Road neighborhood. The contractor will mobilize in June 2016 and complete all work within the 2017 calendar year.

In other business, the Board awarded a Unit Price Purchase of miscellaneous inventory items to Anixter, Inc. and American Wire Group for a total estimated cost of $102,602.90. The purpose of this purchase is to increase warehouse stock for the upcoming upgrade of the electrical distribution system and pole replacement project.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., April 13th, in the Board Room of Keys Energy Servicesí Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West.
