05/12/2016 ~ Keys Energy Services (KEYS) recently approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the City of Key West to help fund the installation of solar arrays at the new City Hall location on White Street in Key West.

KEYS will contribute up to $240,000 to the City for the solar project from the $1.5-million in British Petroleum (BP) settlement money the Utility received. The City will be responsible for all costs beyond the $240,000 contribution and the ongoing operating and maintenance costs of the arrays.

“The Utility Board stated their preference was to spend the BP money on local environmental initiatives,” said Lynne Tejeda, General Manager & CEO. She added that, “the contribution to the City’s solar project will help defray costs and assist City Hall achieve its Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) certification.”

In other business, the Utility Board approved the purchase of a Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Firewall and FirePower system for a fixed amount of $35,722.59. This new system will replace KEYS current firewall which is near end of life. The new Cisco system will offer increased protection, functionality, redundancy, and is bundled with Cisco’s FirePower Cyber security device and advanced malware protection.

The regular meeting of the Utility Board took place at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 11th, in the Board Room of Keys Energy Services’ Service Building, 1001 James Street, Key West
