High School Internship
This internship is intended to help nurture workforce development and introduce students to careers in public power. The selected intern will perform various clerical tasks and assist a cross section of departments throughout the course of their internship.
To be eligible
- You must be a Junior or Senior enrolled in a high school in the Lower Florida Keys.
- You must have a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record, as determined by
KEYS, and maintain at your own expense.
- You must pass a basic math test. Click here for a sample test.
- You must reside in KEYS’ service area, at your own expense, during the entirety of the
- You must submit a resume, letter of recommendation from a teacher or community
member, and official transcript from your high school.
- If you are selected as a candidate, you will undergo pre-employment medical screening.
KEYS’ high school internship program will be offered beginning in September 2021 and is authorized through September 2022. The program may be extended at the discretion of the Utility Board.
Selected intern will be paid $15.00 per hour and expected to work Monday through Friday for a total of 5 to no more than 15 hours per week, as their school and activity schedule allows. Additional hours may be allowed during school holiday breaks (including summer) that do not coincide with KEYS’ holidays. Observed KEYS holidays during the course of the internship will be non-work, non-paid days.
Intern will not be eligible for health benefits or overtime pay.
